Earth Rot, David Axelrod LP Now Again
Now-Again records – Eothen Alapatt aka ‘Egon’ founded the record label in 2002 in Los Angeles whilst running the infamous Stones Throw label simultaneously.
He focuses on reissues of music from the 1950’s to the present day and the label represents a wealth of discographies that range from Nigerian fuzz-funk to Swedish hard rock to Brasilian psychedelia to the jazz, funk, soul and disco that Egon is known for. These records are always on rotation at the restaurant.
Whenever he is in town, usually with his partner in crime, Madlib, they always find a moment to visit us on Columbia Road. Like his record label, his knowledge of wine and food runs deep. It’s always a good evening when they drop in and we are really proud to be able to offer a selection for sale here.
Earth Rot (1970) set the visionary composer/arranger/producer up for his final stage as an architect of jazz fusion and ensured that his productions would help future architects of hip hop.
We present here both vocal and instrumental versions of Axelrod’s classic Earth Rot. The instrumentals have never before been released. Both contain and an oversized, 28p. booklet that delves into Axelrod’s incredible life and music, replete with never before published photos and an interview with Axelrod by Eothen Alapatt and Waxpoetic’s Brian Digenti. Audiophile reissue, lacquered directly from Axelrod’s original master tapes at Capitol Records by Ron McMaster.
