The wines of Nino Barraco are special to us for many reasons, not least because of their robust, flavoursome expressions of the Marsala region, ever-laden with an unmistakable line of acidity. They are simply perfect partners to the food here at Brawn and transport us instantly to the Sicilian seaside. Since taking control of his family's vineyards in 2004, he has worked organically, trying to best show what Marsala can offer - favouring a dryer, more savoury interpretation than the sweeter, “cooking-quality” wines that have traditionally been associated with the region.
Nino has visited us and poured at special dinners through the years and loves Brawn and although he doesn’t remember anyone’s name from the team, (other than Ed!) his UK importer, Tutto Wines, say that Nino loves to see us and appreciates the time we spend each year. Whenever we can, we like to spend that time listening & tasting the new cuvées all alongside each other - an experience that always shows the breadth of style that he manages to eek out in a single vintage.
Nino says ‘it’s amazing to see people being curious about the wines and having fun with the food and the people in the restaurant’. His favourite pairing with Ed's food was back in 2017... he still talks about the chopped oyster & mackerel dish paired with Vignammare or even the raw scallop with celery and bottarga alongside the more aromatic Zibbibo.
